Carabinieri Alessio Di Bernardo and Raffaele D'Alessandro, accused of manslaughter, convicted in the Supreme Court for the case of Stefano Cucchi, who died on 22 October 2009 while he was in custody. The Supreme Court, confirming the sentence, however, reduced the sentence from 13 to 12 years of imprisonment, while the pg Tomaso Epidendio had asked for confirmation of the sentence inflicted on the appeal process.

"At this point we can put an end to this first part of the trial on Stefano's murder", said llaria, Cucchi's sister. Adding: "Now we can say that he was beaten to death, that justice was done against of those who took him away from us. I have to thank many people, my thoughts at this moment go to my parents who got sick of all this and cannot be with us, goes to my lawyers Fabio Anselmo and Stefano Maccioni and a big thanks to Dr. Giovanni Musarò who brought us here ".

Instead, there will be a new appeal process for the two carabinieri accused of forgery, again in the context of the same affair. These are Roberto Mandolini, who had been sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment, and Francesco Tedesco, sentenced to 2 and a half years in prison.

After the verdict of the Cassation, the General Command of the Carabinieri issued an official note, which reads: "The sentence issued today by the Court of Cassation establishes the responsibilities of two of the four carabinieri involved, in various capacities, in the affair of the dramatic death of Stefano Cucchi. A sentence that pains us, because the ascertained behaviors contradict the values and principles to which those who wear our uniform must, always and in any case, inspire their actions. We are close to the Cucchi family, to whom we share the pain and to whom we ask to welcome our deep suffering and our regret. Now that justice has definitively finished its course - continues the Command of the Arma -, the coherent disciplinary and administrative procedures against the condemned soldiers will be promptly concluded, with the utmost rigor. We owe it to the Cucchi family and to all the Carabinieri who daily carry out their mission of closeness and support to the citizens ”.
