In Sardinia, 16 murders occurred in 2024, the same figure as in 2023, which places the island in tenth place among Italian regions in a ranking led by Campania (55), ahead of Lombardy (45) and Lazio (30) .
The data emerges from the Report "Voluntary homicides committed in Italy" by the Criminalpol of the Police. Despite an identical number of homicides, the gender of the victims changes in Sardinia and not by a small amount: in 2023 there were 14 men and two women, this year 8 and 8 .
At a national level , faced with a number of homicides that is continuously decreasing ( -33% in 10 years, from 475 in 2015 to 319 in 2024, -6% compared to 2023 when there were 340 ), the data of minors who commit crimes stands out, a percentage that has almost tripled in one year. In 2023 only 4% of homicides were committed by minors, in 2024 we are at 11% . The percentage of minors killed has almost doubled, from 7 to 4%.
The biggest drop, looking at the last ten years, concerns murders linked to organized crime: there were 53 in 2015, going down to 15 in 2024 (-72%) . «The clear decrease in the number of murders attributable to organized crime contexts is significant of how the mafias in Italy are changing their skin: they try to avoid uproar in order to be able to dedicate themselves more effectively to criminal activities and above all to the infiltration of the legal economy », the report underlines.
In ten years, the report further underlines, there has been a 38% decrease in homicides with male victims (from 330 to 206) and a 22% decrease in those with female victims (from 145 to 113). In 2024 , 49% of homicides originated from a degenerate argument (45% in 2023), while as regards the modus operandi, the use of improper weapons and bladed weapons is in first place (133 cases in 2024 compared to 156 in 2023), while firearms were used in 98 cases in 2024 and in 101 in 2023. Poisoning was detected in only 6 cases in 2024 and 4 in 2023.
