A severe blow to Roman crime was dealt by Carabinieri officers from the Rome Parioli branch of the Operations Unit, who executed 18 arrest warrants on behalf of the Public Prosecutor's Office, as part of an investigation that uncovered at least 46 incidents of theft and robbery in Rome and its province. The operation ends a dangerous trail of violence that had caused widespread social alarm.

The group, made up of Roma people linked to the rest camp on Via dei Gordiani , is accused of robberies, often targeting elderly people caught in the afternoon or evening, thefts from commercial establishments such as bars and arcades, kidnapping, receiving stolen goods, damage and arson.

The investigation documented the brutality of the attacks: investigators intercepted telephone conversations between the suspects, recording the screams and terrified voices of the victims.

Despite some previous arrests, the group quickly reorganized, recruiting new members to continue its criminal activity .

The investigations also revealed that some of the robberies were planned in detail by an inmate in Regina Coeli prison, who managed the "criminal direction" remotely.
