«I didn't expect such a prompt phone call from the President of the Republic. I felt the closeness and empathy from the head of state . It was a very important moment for Ilaria's family which is objectively proven."
This is how Roberto Salis , father of the teacher of Sardinian origins detained in Hungary, talks about the call from Sergio Mattarella , in an interview with La Stampa.
«He responded to my letter, sent only 24 hours earlier, in a very short time. He was very diligent and this really made me feel his closeness , his solidarity with the drama that my family is experiencing", says Salis.
Updates on the daughter's legal case: «We have submitted a request for an appeal and now the decision passes to the second instance judges, who could also review the positions». Salis calls for "action from the executive but with a different approach". Specifically: « The separation of powers in Hungary is a joke: if the Italian government puts pressure on it adequately there may be a change of heart ».
On the possibility of his daughter's candidacy for the European elections: «When and if this thing becomes concrete, then we will think about it. However, it's not up to me to decide. It is not my responsibility".
