A five-month-old baby died, struck down by a syncytial virus, a respiratory disease that affects infants at an early age and which in just 48 hours tore him from life.
It happened in the Neapolitan area, the attempts of the doctors of the Pediatric ward of San Leonardo di Castellammare di Stabia, where Giuseppe had been hospitalized for two days, were useless. He died today, while he was being prepared to be transferred to the Santobono in Naples.
"He was intubated, but he could not withstand the intubation maneuver. He died immediately after", explain from the Health Department.
The little patient arrived at the hospital on November 6 "with severe dyspnea and severe respiratory problems," they explain from the hospital. The disease "had a rapid negative evolution and he was preparing his transfer to the Santobono with an anesthetist as a companion".
The entire Pediatric ward is in shock. For days it has been welcoming several children with VRS (respiratory syncytial virus) for which there is no cure, only supportive therapies.
The entire national territory is experiencing an epidemic (the disease has also hit the Ferragnez 'daughter, who repeatedly talked about it on their social profiles, inviting parents to be very careful). At San Leonardo there are many small hospitalized patients between Pediatrics and Neonatology.
The medical record has been seized, they let the Health Department know, and the baby's body will be subjected to an autopsy. An investigation has been opened on the incident, the carabinieri investigate.
