The compensation paid to Giulia Ligresti, daughter of entrepreneur Salvatore, has increased to €95,000, plus €30,000 in expenses. Ligresti is believed to be the victim of a miscarriage of justice when she was arrested in 2013, first in prison and then under house arrest, as part of the Turin prosecutor's investigation into the Fonsai case.
For this case, he had immediately pleaded guilty to a two-and-a-half-year sentence, which was later overturned by the Supreme Court of Cassation. As reported today in Corriere della Sera, last Thursday the judges of the second instance rejected the Prosecutor General's appeal against the previous ruling, issued a year ago, which had awarded him €72,000 in damages, holding that the plea bargain did not constitute an obstacle to the recognition of a miscarriage of justice.
For Giulia Ligresti, assisted by lawyers Massimo Rossi and Pamela Picasso, the ruling two days ago is the fourth on appeal, after three Supreme Court decisions. In 2022, another section of the Milan Court of Appeal rejected the first request for compensation for judicial error, amounting to €1.3 million, filed by the entrepreneur's daughter, who had been awarded €16,000 for wrongful imprisonment.
"This sentence," she herself told Corriere della Sera, " recognizes that my plea bargain was the result of 'intense precautionary pressure.' I am moved ," she added, specifying that the sum, net of expenses, will go to two schools, one in India and the other in Syria.
