«I have reached the end, this is the reality».

A sentence posted on Instagram by Reinhold Messner , together with a photo of him contemplating the view sitting on a small boat in the middle of a lake, sparked a worried reaction from the South Tyrolean mountaineer's fans .

«I leave with a clear conscience, knowing that I was a good person, that I gave my all, that I was a loving father, a good friend and a good brother. Now it's time to live my last dreams and love the people who mean a lot to me, but the most important thing is gratitude ,” the post adds.

The reaction was immediate, as reported by local newspapers, on social media: “Hey! Let's not play jokes!”, “Legends never go away and are here forever”; and again: “You are and will always remain immortal”.

Reached by phone by reporters, Messner, 79 years old, wanted to reassure fans: "I'm fine, very well... But I'm no longer twenty or even sixty."

Messner then explained that he was leaving for India where he will remain until the end of the year: «I am reaching the end and I accept this fact. I don't turn a blind eye to the real facts. But this doesn't mean that I don't have ideas and projects." And today a new post with his tent on a glacier and the exaltation of the beauty of nature.
