A newborn baby was found, fortunately alive, in the rubbish near a dumpster in the center of Taranto .

To find him this morning around 7 a passerby who was walking her dogs. Attracted by the cries, she approached and saw the little one in an envelope and wrapped in a blanket , next to a soft toy.

The woman immediately alerted the emergency services and the 118 personnel intervened on the spot, who took care of the newborn and transported him to the Santissima Annunziata hospital. The ASL reports that the baby is in "excellent condition" .

The part of the umbilical cord attached to the baby was still fresh, so the birth dates back to one or two hours before the discovery . The other part remained attached to the mother who, if not adequately assisted, risks bleeding.

The little one is pampered by all the staff and personally supervised by Professor Federico Schettini of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: «Let's hope – his appeal – that the mother will be in touch soon».

The police are investigating the matter and are acquiring images from video surveillance cameras in the area. The newborn was found in via Pisanelli at the corner with via Principe Amedeo.
