The prison doors open for the infamous "Sardinian glass-breaker", the 45-year-old man described by the Emilian press as "the nightmare of motorists" in Modena and its surroundings.

The man, originally from Sulcis, had been arrested in recent days because he was held responsible for dozens of thefts committed against parked cars , almost always committed with the same modus operandi: windows smashed with a glass breaker and valuables looted from the passenger compartments .

After the police had tracked him down in an abandoned farmhouse and also found him in possession of various stolen goods, house arrest had been imposed on him, to be served at his mother's house in Iglesias.

But the man never set foot on the ferry to the island ("I have no money and no documents and I steal only to eat", he allegedly justified himself): for this he was arrested again and, this time, taken to a cell.
