Modena: A priest was stabbed in the throat in the historic center; the attacker is being hunted.

Horror this morning in the centre of Modena , where a 45-year-old priest was stabbed in the throat.

The priest, Colombian Don Rodrigo Grajales Gaviria, was attacked on Via Castelmaraldo.

The Carabinieri are currently investigating the incident, proceeding with attempted murder charges, to identify the attacker.

The priest, taken to the hospital by emergency services, is not believed to be in life-threatening danger. The motive for the stabbing is currently unclear.

"I extend my deepest sympathy to Don Rodrigo and hope he recovers quickly," said Mayor Massimo Mezzetti . "It's a relief," the mayor continued, "to know his life is not in danger. I hope that this very serious incident, which occurred in broad daylight in an area that is certainly not isolated, will be fully shed light on."

Don Rodrigo Grajales Gaviria, as the mayor specified, is a well-known priest in the city "and a point of reference for Modenese people of South American origin."
