A note with some phone numbers, her passport and her cell phone: these are some of the personal effects found by the Carabinieri in the room of Mariia Buhaiova, the 18-year-old Ukrainian who disappeared on Friday from the tourist village of Carovigno where she was doing an internship.

The searches are coordinated by the prefecture of Brindisi, and from the summit held this morning it emerged that from the images acquired by cameras in the area of the tourist village the girl can be seen moving away from the structure and taking a path in the direction of the bypass near the state road 379. In the same area the fixed station is being set up to manage all phases of the searches which will also see the support of a helicopter and a dog unit and will also involve stretches of the coast near the beaches near the Torre Guaceto reserve. Checks are also underway by the Polfer along the tracks of the Carovigno station.

The managers of the accommodation facility reported her disappearance on Saturday morning. Incredulous at her failure to return during the night, they informed the Carabinieri of the local Carovigno station and, with the coordination of the prefecture, began the search by land with drones and molecular dogs, and by sea with the means of the local Naval League sections. The 18-year-old is part of a group of students from the University of Bratislava who are attending internships in facilities in the province of Brindisi.

Such a departure was unexpected for those who had the chance to know her in these days. Nothing could have been foreseen or hypothesized, it filters inside the structure, of her choice to leave the village, making every trace disappear, so suddenly, and generating concern among the village leaders and the friends with whom she is sharing this experience far from home.

The girl's parents, who live in Ukraine, were informed of her disappearance and are constantly informed of the search activities through diplomatic channels. The military in these hours have listened to the employees of Meditur, where the 18-year-old was working, and also to the other girls of the same university project.

There are many appeals via social media inviting people to provide information in case of sighting of the young woman, such as that of the mayor of the same municipality Massimo Lanzilotti.
