Six Syrian refugees , including two children aged one and two , a teenager and three adults, died on a boat allegedly "of hunger and thirst".
This was stated by the UNHCR , underlining that the Agency is assisting the 26 survivors who landed in Pozzallo , many of whom "have extremely serious conditions , including burns".
"It is unacceptable," adds Chiara Cardoletti , UNHCR representative for Italy. “Strengthening sea rescue is the only way to avoid these tragedies”.
