There is no criminal liability for the death of skier Matilde Lorenzi. The Bolzano Public Prosecutor's Office emphasizes this in a note, specifying that the PM "has already issued the authorization for burial, given that no criminal liability is identified". The Public Prosecutor's Office also specifies that it has opened, "upon notification from the Carabinieri of Senales, proceedings for acts that do not constitute a crime".

Matilde's death is "an immense pain", writes her sister Lucrezia on social media, also with a passion for skiing and involved in World Cup and European Cup races. "There are still too many emotions, it's a very heated moment. However, there is one thing I want to say - says her father Adolfo Lorenzi to Corriere della Sera - For Matilde's funeral we do not want any type of flower. In these hours we are trying to organize a fundraiser to be used to improve the safety of athletes who ski. Now we will see how to do it, perhaps also collaborating with the university, but our goal is to protect the kids who ski and to keep alive the memory of Mati".

The 19-year-old, a promising Italian skier, died at dawn in the hospital in Bolzano from an internal hemorrhage after the accident on the slopes of Val Senales, where she was training.

She was going down the Grawand G1, a red slope, when she hit a door with her arm and lost control of her skis, which spread apart. In the fall, she hit her face violently on the icy ground and then ended up off the slope : immediately rescued, she was taken to the hospital in Bolzano by helicopter in a short time but unfortunately the impact was fatal and the treatment in the intensive care unit was in vain . The carabinieri have carried out a series of investigations into the dynamics of the accident ordered by the Bolzano prosecutor's office.

According to initial investigations, it was a tragic accident; the track was up to standard and all safety measures were respected. It seems that the athlete had "great bad luck", as the president of the Alto Adige Coni Alex Tabarelli defines it, remembering "the joyful smile" of the young sprinter who in March had won her first Italian Championship in Val Sarentina.

From politics to the world of sports, many are rallying around Matilde Lorenzi's family, starting with the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, who expressed "sincere emotion". Even the President of the Council Giorgia Meloni said she was "very saddened by the premature passing of the promising Italian skier". "A tragedy of this kind leaves everyone speechless", observed the President of the Province of Bolzano, Arno Kompatscher . The Fisi, in mourning, has "suspended training activities and is close to the family and friends and all those who loved Matilde and will remember her forever".
