Matilde Lorenzi, twenty years old, a great promise of alpine skiing, was seriously injured in an accident that occurred during training on the slopes of Val Senales, in Alto Adige.

According to an initial reconstruction, the young athlete from the Italian Army sports group, who is part of the junior national team, was skiing down the Gravand G1 slope when her skis separated and she lost contact with the snow, falling to the ground and violently hitting her face on the icy ground. Then one of the skis came loose and Lorenzi tumbled off the slope.

The girl is hospitalized at the San Maurizio hospital in Bolzano. The 20-year-old from Villarpasse in Turin, the Italian Winter Sports Federation specifies, stood out last season by winning the Italian overall and youth super-G title in Sarentino and, again last year, she ranked sixth in downhill and eighth in super-G at the Junior World Championships in Chatel, France.
