The carabinieri of the investigative unit of the operational department of the provincial command of Palermo carried out a precautionary order in prison against nine people in the mafia district of Misilmeri and Belmonte Mezzagno.

The provision, signed by the investigating judge of the Palermo court at the request of the DDA, hypothesizes the crimes of mafia-type association, carrying and possession of clandestine weapons and receiving stolen goods, the latter aggravated by the mafia method and modalities.

The "Limes" operation, coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Paolo Guido, was launched in January 2020, after three murders and an attempted murder in Belmonte Mezzagno. Vincenzo Greco, a 36-year-old unskilled worker, the accountant Antonio Di Liberto, 49, and the merchant Agostino Alessandro Migliore, 45, brother of Giovanni Migliore, considered a man of honor, were killed. The attempted murder was that of Giuseppe Benigno which took place in broad daylight and in the center.

According to the investigations of the carabinieri, after these bloody facts, Agostino Giocondo would have managed the fate of the district of Belmonte Mezzagno who would have tried to maintain order in the territory, resolve disputes between private individuals and would have dealt with the livelihood of the detainees. The clan could also count on an arsenal of weapons whose keeper was Giocondo himself.
