Lavitola to the investigating judge: "I ordered the Ranucci attack."

During the preliminary hearing, which lasted over five hours, Valter Lavitola admitted "being the instigator of the attack on Sigfrido Ranucci," as alleged by the Rome prosecutor's office.

"He confirmed the prosecutor's accusation by admitting that he instigated the attack and says he did so to protect Ranucci's safety, who was the target of several dangerous attempts to attack him and force him to increase his security detail ," said Sergio Cola, Valter Lavitola's defense attorney, at the end of the preliminary hearing.

Lavitola's lawyer offered no comment on whether the driver was aware of what had happened.
