The body of a newborn baby was landed at the Favarolo pier in Lampedusa by a patrol boat from the Capitaneria which saved a group of migrants in the waters off the island.

The child's body was placed in a white coffin and taken to the cemetery in the Imbriacola district.

One person, probably the mother of the newborn, was instead transferred by ambulance to the outpatient clinic.

Since midnight, 121 migrants have arrived in Lampedusa, including 14 women, who reported being originally from Egypt, Syria, Sudan, Guinea, Cameroon and Ivory Coast. In the next few hours the police will begin to escort 400 of the guests of the Imbriacola district hotspot to the port, they will be embarked on the Galaxy ferry to Porto Empedocle.
