Known painter shot dead while going to Mass

A man was shot dead this morning in Lanciano, in the province of Chieti. The victim is Francesco De Florio De Grandis, a well-known 72-year-old artist known as "Ciccillo" or "the painter of the night".

Like every Sunday he went out to go to mass but along the way, a few tens of meters from his home, someone fired a dozen shots at him. The son, warned by his mother, arrived immediately on the spot, while the police stopped a neighbor, who apparently still had a gun in his hand but it is not clear why he could have acted.

There was no rancor for the family members between the two, investigations are underway.
