Hit in the head by a bolt: Bergamo, Sardinian mechanic dies

A tragic accident at work in the province of Bergamo cost the life of a 45-year-old mechanic of Sardinian origin.
This is Manuel Vargiu , a long-time resident of the municipality of Ponteranica.
The tragedy occurred in a nursery in Valbrembo. According to an initial reconstruction, the 45-year-old was hit in the head by a bolt ejected from a wood-chopping machine.
The carabinieri and medical personnel intervened on site after the alarm. Unfortunately, however, there was nothing that could be done for the man.
The machine was seized and experts from the Prevention and Safety at Work department of the ATS Bergamo have started investigations.
"He was a hard worker, a kind and humble person," said someone who knew him, moved, in an interview with the local press.
Vargiu leaves behind a wife and a 17-year-old son.
