The Alidaunia company aircraft, in service on the Foggia-Vieste-Isole Tremiti route , lost radio contact and disappeared from the radar this morning at 10.30 in the Apricena area. He had left an hour earlier from the Tremiti Islands. The searches of the fire brigade started immediately, both on the ground and with a Pescara helicopter.

The helicopter was later found in a rural area in Castelpagano di Apricena, between San Severo and Apricena.

All seven people on board died: two crew members, a family of Slovenian tourists with a child and a doctor from the 118 station present in the Tremiti Islands who was returning home after work .

Ironically, explained the mayor of the archipelago Peppino Calabrese, " the doctor decided to take the helicopter instead of the ship due to adverse marine weather conditions ". “Our community - added the mayor - is in shock, such a thing had never happened in 30 years of service.
