He showed up at the emergency room with what seemed like a severe sore throat and died a few hours later.

Tragedy at San Camillo in Rome: the victim is a 44-year-old, Francesco De Paolis. On December 31st he went to hospital: his throat had swollen so much that he had difficulty swallowing. As reconstructed by Messaggero, once he entered code white, he no longer answered the phone for hours. Until the health workers contacted the family again, explaining that the situation was "serious".

At that point De Paolis' wife rushed to the emergency room where the man died around 10.30pm. An autopsy will now establish the causes of death.

The family members filed a complaint with the police at Porta Portese station. He sent the last message to his partner two hours before his death.

From San Camillo they have made it known that they are "confident in the work of the healthcare personnel who provided assistance to the patient during his sudden and serious evolution, which unfortunately culminated in his death" and are awaiting the results of the autopsy. The man, a clerk in a supermarket in the capital, leaves behind two daughters aged 3 and 12 in addition to his wife.
