Matteo Di Pietro, the 20-year-old linked to the YouTuber collective Theborderline, who on 14 June last was driving the rented Lamborghini SUV which hit a Smart car in Casal Palocco, killing a five-year-old, has agreed to a sentence of 4 years and 4 months. years that he was on board together with his mother and little sister, who were injured.

The sentence, for the crimes of aggravated vehicular homicide and injuries, was ratified by the investigating judge of Rome. Di Pietro was granted general extenuating circumstances.

«Di Pietro will not go to prison – said the YouTuber's defender, the lawyer Antonella Benveduti – I believe that this is a sentence in line with the purposes of our system, of re-education, of re-socialisation typical of the criminal sanction. They are fundamental cornerstones of our criminal system, provided for by the Constitution and important in subsequently evaluating the correctness of this punishment. No sentence can mitigate the grave mourning, the grave loss." Di Pietro, he added, «expressed his apologies, his pain. He acknowledged his responsibility again, as he had already done in the interrogation and also expressed his desire to engage in projects concerning road safety in the future. Therefore his social commitment which he himself defined as a "social objective".

«We were prepared, it wasn't a surprise. It remains a tragedy for a family, for a mother. Today we have a sentence that we respect but it will not be able to restore the life of a 5-year-old child ", was the comment of the lawyer Matteo Melandri, lawyer of the child's mother. The defendant also had his driving license revoked.

According to the president of the non-profit Road Accident Victims Association (Avisl), the lawyer Domenico Musicco, «the sentence imposed for road homicide for the YouTuber is too low . All the aggravating circumstances were present and the speed was four times higher than permitted in a 30 zone. Thus, justice is not being served for the family of the killed child. Di Pietro will be able to take advantage of alternative measures to prison and the granting of the plea deal effectively results in a negligible sentence. It's not a good page for road victims."
