Time passes, but more than 48 hours later there is no trace of little Mattia Luconi , 8 years old, snatched from the arms of his mother Silvia Mereu , swallowed by Nevola while he was in Castello di Suasa (Ancona).
Two days without peace, without “neither sleeping nor eating”, a wait that “wears you out” , explains uncle Alessandro Fontana. Silvia, a 40-year-old pharmacist from Urzulei, is hospitalized with injuries and fractures in the Senigallia hospital. But the physical pain is nothing compared to the agony and anxiety for the fate of the son, who had started attending the third grade.
The more time passes, the more hopes diminish: “ Until Friday morning we harbored hopes, realistically I fear they are gone ”, declares the uncle.
“Find it, give it back to us”, is the mother's appeal, “Let's laugh Mattia back to the family”, that of the mayor of San Lorenzo in Campo Davide Dellonti.
ELEVEN DEAD AND TWO MISSING
We continue to dig in the mud: yesterday the lifeless body of one of the missing, Michele Bompezzi, 47, was found . He is the eleventh victim of the tragedy , two still missing including little Mattia. The other person missing is Brunella Chiù, 56, sucked into Nevola with her 17-year-old daughter Noemi Bartolucci (her body was found lifeless) and her other son Simone, who resisted and got involved. except clinging to a plant for three hours .
RESEARCH
The research is now concentrated in the Contrada Coste area, in the Municipality of Barbara and extends to the entire area affected by the water bomb. Dozens of fire brigade teams have been at work since Thursday evening, both in the search for the missing and in bringing relief to the population overwhelmed by the mud. Today, thanks to the favorable weather conditions - the sun is shining on the Senigallia area - there could be a clear change of strategy in searching for Mattia and Brunella : in addition to plumbing the Nevola, we could begin to remove the large blocks carried by the flood.
"LOVED BY ALL"
Mattia was a “sweet and affectionate” child, loved by everyone in the village: “ He had a gesture of friendship for everyone, he was well-liked, a mascot for companions and teachers . He loves video games, mobile phones and watching TV programs, such as Peppa Pig cartoons ”, says his uncle, but he also loves playing outdoors.
URZULEI PLEASE
Anxiety also in Urzulei, a town where mother Silvia Mereu is from. The faithful invoke St. George, protector of the country . From Friday in every mass celebrated in the church of San Giovanni Battista the parish priest Don Marco Congiu entrusts prayer intentions to God, the Madonna and the patron saints.
“They say that hope is the last to die, but at this point it seems difficult that they can find Mattia alive”, says Andrea Sotgiu, Silvia's maternal uncle, in constant contact with his sister Massimina, Mattia's grandmother. Nine years ago Silvia lost her cousin Luca Tanzi, the young policeman who died in the collapse of the Oloè bridge , during a flood that brought Sardinia to its knees.
It has been a few years since Silvia has not returned to Urzulei, where the family owns a house in via Garibaldi.
