When the head of the family was killed by an illness, his wife and child living with him, unable to look after themselves, died of starvation.

A shocking truth that emerged from the autopsy carried out on the bodies of Eros Canullo, 80, his wife Angela Maria Moretti (76) and their son Alessandro (54), found lifeless in their house in Macerata on 6 September last. The death, however, dates back to months earlier.

Carbon monoxide poisoning was initially assumed, but no trace of the substance was found in the remains of the three victims.

The woman had had a stroke and was bedridden, her son was disabled after a car accident. The 80-year-old took care of them, going shopping and following the domestic needs. But when the neighbors never saw him again and a relative was unable to get in touch with the three, the alarm went off. Hence the tragic discovery.
