Mohammad Hannoun, the Palestinian architect arrested on Saturday on charges of being a member and financier of Hamas, exercised his right to remain silent.

The preliminary hearing, which began at 9 a.m., took place in Marassi Prison before investigating judge Silvia Carpanini.

"We advised him to avail himself of it," explain lawyers Emanuele Tambuscio and Fabio Sommovigo, "because he hasn't yet had a chance to read the documents." Hannoun, however, has released a spontaneous statement.
