Eitan Bondì, the 21-year-old arrested for having shot two ANPI activists on April 25th in Rome .

The preliminary investigations judge made this decision at the end of the validation hearing, downgrading the charge from double attempted murder to attempted assault with multiple aggravating factors, including premeditation.

"I take responsibility for this deplorable act; I am ashamed of what I did. I express my solidarity with those injured and those who felt offended by my actions," the young man said, according to his lawyers, Cesare Gai and Gianluca Tognozzi, during spontaneous statements before the investigating judge. "I want to clarify that I am not part of any group. There are no political or ideological motives behind my actions: I have no ties to the Jewish Brigade," he added.

The young man immediately confessed when officers from the Digos (Italian Special Operations Division) and the Colombo police station knocked on the door of his home in the Marconi neighborhood the other night. Inside, investigators found knives, pistols, and ammunition, as well as Israeli flags and other material. The twenty-one-year-old's firearms license for clay pigeon shooting was immediately revoked as a precautionary measure.

Those who met him in prison describe him as visibly distressed and "repentant." He reportedly repeated that he didn't mean to kill and that there was no specific motive behind the shots .
