In the Garlasco case , messages posted on a seduction forum between 2009 and 2016 by a user who signed himself " Andreas " are back in the spotlight. That nickname may have been Andrea Sempio , 38, recently registered as a suspect in the murder of Chiara Poggi, killed in Garlasco in August 2007.
Among the posts at the center of the debate, one in particular caught the investigators' attention: it dates back to November 30, 2010, and describes a severe "one-itis" —a slang term indicating an irrational obsession with a single person— that occurred between the ages of 18 and 20. A time frame that would coincide with the crime.
Sempio's lawyer, Taccia, categorically ruled out the possibility that the girl was Chiara Poggi. " I was in the group, and I remember very well the girl he had a crush on: she was younger than us , and had nothing to do with the victim," she stated on Quarto Grado. The defense also urged the public not to interpret the term "one-itis" exclusively as a pathological obsession, but rather as an intense and immature form of youthful infatuation.
Andreas himself, in other forum posts, seemed to play down that sentiment: "Don't confuse one-itis and love... many people are obsessed with women they haven't even spoken to." And again: "I was in love with a fantasy more than the girl herself." The author admitted he never got beyond "a hello and a few words."
Other messages attributed to the same profile raise concerns. In a 2009 post, the user reflected on relationships, arguing that a girlfriend with a boyfriend wasn't "an insurmountable obstacle." Elsewhere, he described his own relationship difficulties: "I'm almost 22 and I've only gotten to a few kisses at most... my main obstacle is physical contact."
Even more controversial are some passages with extreme tones. In one , the author cited mass murderer Elliot Rodger, writing that he recognized himself "more in the boy," while specifying that he had been "too busy taking drugs and cutting myself up" to think about violence . In another, he reflected on the theme of rape as something that "rationally may be horrifying, but from the point of view of biology, evolution, and reproduction, rape is a practical demonstration of the male's strength and the 'proof' that he will pass on to his descendants qualities of strength and aggressiveness, very useful for survival in nature."
Sempio, meanwhile, is reportedly considering whether to respond to the magistrates or exercise his right to remain silent: a decision that will be made only in the next few hours.
