In the coming days, the preliminary investigation into the murder of Chiara Poggi (killed in Garlasco in 2007) will resume in Milan. The investigation is part of the new investigation opened by the Pavia Prosecutor's Office, which has focused attention on Andrea Sempio, a friend of the victim's brother . Meanwhile, Alberto Stasi, Chiara's ex-boyfriend, is finishing serving his final 16-year prison sentence.
The resumption of investigations is linked to the delivery of the raw data relating to the samples taken from the girl's nails . This is the material that the Parma RIS and geneticist Francesco De Stefano had already worked on in the previous phases of the trial.
The documentation was requested by the expert appointed by the investigating judge, Denise Albani, who will be responsible for verifying the actual usability of those findings and clarifying whether the genetic profile found on Chiara's left little finger is attributable to Sempio, as well as establishing the identity of a second DNA trace found in those same traces.
The investigation also focuses on the sequence of samples originally catalogued as MDX1, MDX2, MDX3, and MDX4. In 2007, experts ruled out the presence of male profiles; today, with new technologies, the goal is to understand whether those sequences might conceal traces of another individual, perhaps female, and to assign a name to that individual.
At the same time, Albani will also have to express his opinion on the so-called “Unknown 3” , a genetic profile that the Prosecutor's Office's consultants believe to be the result of contamination, while Stasi's defense continues to request access to all the original data collected by the RIS in the first investigation.
Another strand of the evidentiary incident concerns the fingerprint analyses on waste and parasiticides seized in the villa on Via Pascoli, entrusted to the expert Domenico Marchigiani .
In the background, there remains the wait for the consultation of forensic anthropologist Cristina Cattaneo, appointed by Prosecutor Fabio Napoleone, who will work with the Cagliari RIS to clarify the new analyses of the bloodstains found at the crime scene.
