Finance seizes 2,000 kilos of cocaine at sea, worth 400 million euros
The drug was found off the east coast of SicilyMore than 1,600 bricks containing cocaine for a gross weight of almost two tons were found and seized by the Guardia di Finanza off the eastern coast of Sicily.
The drug was packed, to avoid water infiltration and sinking, in about 70 floating packages escorted by a luminous signaling device and held together by nets.
It would be a cargo of drugs left at sea by cargo ships which was then to be recovered and transported to the mainland.
If placed on the market, cocaine would have yielded over 400 million euros.
This is one of the largest astonishing discoveries ever made on the national territory.
