Maria Cristina Gallo , 56, the professor who had reported the serious delays in delivering histological tests following a biopsy performed for a serious illness, died in Mazara del Vallo: the results arrived only after eight months.

The report was delivered to her eight months after the tissue was taken for analysis. Her complaint triggered an investigation by the Trapani Public Prosecutor's Office, which is still pending, and in which ten doctors are under investigation.

The histological examination had been requested in December 2023, after the hysterectomy. The results, however, did not arrive until August 2024, by which time the woman's clinical condition had become severely compromised due to widespread metastases.
