From football fields to those where plants are grown to obtain cocaine: he is a former Colombian footballer, who also played as a striker for the national team, the drug trafficker arrested yesterday in Naples by the investigators of the Vicaria Mercato police station.

According to what emerges from the archives, Antony De Avila Charris, now 58 years old, in 1997, would have dedicated to the prisoners, and in particular to two brothers considered important drug traffickers at the head of the Cali cartel, a goal scored with the national team on the occasion of the challenge between Colombia and Ecuador.

He is also among the squads called up by the Colombian coach for the 1994 USA and 1998 France World Cups.

He was wearing the jersey of his favorite team, América de Cali, when he ended up in handcuffs. He had been a fugitive since 2004.

In that team Antony De Avila, nicknamed "the smurf", played from 1983 to 1987, then from 1989 to 1995 and finally in 2009 where he ended his career which also saw him in the United States, in the ranks of New York MetroStars.
