The Carabinieri of Bologna, together with their colleagues from Sassari, Reggio Calabria, Agrigento and Como, have dismantled an organization that trafficked weapons and imported and distributed large quantities of cocaine, hashish and marijuana, coming from Sardinia, Milan, Calabria and Spain destined for the drug dealing market in Emilia-Romagna.
The military executed a custody order against three Italian citizens, one in prison and two under house arrest, as well as the notification of six residence obligations. Two other people, to be taken to prison, are wanted.
In the same proceeding, which involves 26 suspects, all Italians , two men, residents of Imola but of Calabrian origin, had already been arrested on January 21, and numerous house searches were carried out in various regions, including Sardinia. Assets worth approximately 700 thousand euros were also seized, including real estate, company assets, company shares and cars.
The investigation, coordinated by the Bologna DDA , began – the investigators explain – in 2022 from the analysis made by the Carabinieri of numerous encrypted instant messaging chats, acquired thanks to cooperation with Europol. The information collected made it possible to reveal the existence of "a criminal association - the Carabinieri explain - operating mainly in Bologna and its province, active in drug and arms trafficking between 2020 and 2021".
As mentioned, the organization also ran a weapons trafficking ring, including pistols and assault rifles . With the help of Europol, it was also possible to capture two Calabrian fugitives who were living in the Dominican Republic and Colombia . In total, the suspects were charged with 47 counts, including drug-related crimes, weapons, financial crimes and extortion.
The operation led to the seizure of 1 kg of cocaine, 21.5 kg of marijuana, 100 kg of hashish, two semi-automatic pistols and ammunition.
