"Nothing is decided yet. We await the data on the Omicron variant and we will review any measures. We need to work and be attentive".

Mario Draghi confirms that the government will launch a new package of measures before Christmas Eve, but is holding back on the various rumors that circulate, such as the obligation to swab also for vaccinated people in theaters and cinemas, which the Regions do not like.

The hypotheses on the table are different: the further reduction of the duration of the green pass from nine to six or seven months, the buffer for the vaccinated but only in stadiums, concerts and discos, places that involve gatherings, outdoor masks.

Government sources, on the other hand, exclude the extension of the vaccination obligation for all (but it is not excluded that it can be extended to other categories in contact with the public) and the use of the super green pass on buses and metro.

However, there will be an intervention. But the government awaits the flash survey launched by the Higher Institute of Health to understand the real spread of Omicron and its impact on daily infections. The first results will be on the table at Palazzo Chigi between Wednesday and Thursday and only then, on the basis of the data, will the sums be drawn.

There are a couple of key points. The first: the cases of Omicron are underestimated due to the poor sequencing that is done in Italy compared to other European countries, our Achilles heel in the fight against Covid. The second: even if the experts predict the peak no longer at Christmas but in late January, on return the school must be guaranteed in the presence and there will be no generalized closures, unless the hospitalization curve explodes, which according to the projections of the experts shouldn't happen.
