The Ministry of Education will have to compensate the victim and the family of a disabled person who has been bullied for years in an elementary school in Grosseto.

This is the provisions of the court, which for the physical and moral damage caused to the child, now 15 years old, has provided for compensation of 95 thousand euros.

From 2012 to 2016, the child, with a serious physical walking problem, was targeted by some classmates who systematically beat and offended him during class breaks, at recess and even outside school: kicks and punches, even when victim was on the ground, even going so far as to fracture his hand, in addition to the many psychological "wounds".

In 2016 the parents decided to bring a lawsuit against the school, supported by their lawyer Serena Iazzetta, after the episode of the fractured hand. At the hospital, medical staff detected signs of violence on the child, who was 10 at the time, triggering the Pink Code. The little boy told the doctors that those injuries resulted from the blows suffered by schoolmates.

"There is a first-degree sentence of the civil court of Florence that condemns the Ministry of Education and the insurance of the institute to compensate the victim and the family for a total of 95 thousand euros", explains the lawyer Iazzetta. “The ministry accepted the ruling. The school's insurance company delegated to pay damages, on the other hand, has decided to appeal ".

For Iazzetta, "the repetitiveness of these behaviors was recognized by the court for the first time. This is why we talk about bullying and not about injuries at school. Fortunately, at least for the moment, justice has been done".
