Breakthrough on the case of Davide Piampiano , the 24-year-old who died during a hunting trip on 11 January last, hit in the chest by a 12-gauge rifle shot in the Monte Subasio park, in the Fosso delle Carceri area.

Initially it was assumed that the young man had died for   a fall, which might have fired a shot from his own shotgun. Now however, from further investigations, it emerges that he was hit by the shot fired by another person , "presumably" also participating in a wild boar hunt in the countryside of Assisi.

This would be documented by the images of the small camera, a GoPro, which the victim always had with him and then put the images on social media.

The man identified as the one who fired was arrested by the police yesterday afternoon. Voluntary homicide with possible malice the crime that is contested in an order for precautionary custody in prison ordered by the investigating judge of Perugia.

From an initial reconstruction of the dynamics, based on the statements made by various witnesses, it initially emerged - the carabinieri report - that Piampiano was hunting with another friend and that a third hunter , not engaged with them in the hunt but residing in that locality , had found him dying after hearing a shot in the distance and having approached to see if the two had managed to bring down a wild boar. The autopsy had questioned the hypothesis that the shot had been fired accidentally by Piampiano himself.

The investigations by the Carabinieri of Assisi coordinated by the Prosecutor of Perugia have thus led to the reconstruction of a different dynamic of the facts. Also thanks to the footage taken with a small camera that the victim used to post his content on social media . Images that turned out to be particularly crude and dramatic which led the investigators to establish that the fatal shot was certainly not fired by Piampiano's rifle following a fall, but by that of a third party.

The latter - again on the basis of the accusatory reconstruction - would then have tried to sidetrack the investigations by altering the state of the places , unloading the twenty-four-year-old's weapon, getting rid of his own rifle and hunting jacket and above all by "failing to promptly call for help", warned after several minutes by another who was hunting and who had arrived in the meantime. "This omissive behavior - the investigators explain in a press release - made it possible to hypothesize the intentional hypothesis of homicide against the author of the shot, having, with his choice not to call for help immediately, ascertained the risk that the subject stricken he could die."
