Deputy Sportiello breastfeeds her baby in the courtroom: "It's the first time, an important step"

«Today, for the first time in the history of the Chamber, it was possible to breastfeed a child in the Chamber, without having to give up participating in parliamentary work. An important step is taken today, above all because it represents a precedent and a message for the country and for all women".

These are the words of Gilda Sportiello , deputy of the 5 Star Movement, a new mother, who today brought her little son – Federico – to the courtroom. An absolute first for the Italian Parliament.

«From now on - adds Sportiello - if the highest Italian institutions allow female workers to breastfeed in the workplace, no woman, whatever her profession, can no longer be denied this right. No longer will moms have to stop breastfeeding to get back to work. It is essential that this remains solely and exclusively a choice of the woman».
