While the island exceeds 1,200 Covid cases per day , according to the latest ISS monitoring for the control room, it maintains for now an incidence equal to 226 infected per 100 thousand inhabitants, therefore above one of the critical parameters (150 per 100 thousand ). Almost stable inmates: in the intensive care wards (data updated as of 31 December) there are 16 while those in the medical area are 146.
Meanwhile, Omicron reaches 60% of new cases in the northern territory of the island. "Given the current situation of strong expansion of the epidemic curve, supported by the new variant, characterized by a high infectiousness index, serious problems are being determined on the tracking capabilities of the Sisp of Northern Sardinia in a situation common to the whole national territory" , informs the Ats Hygiene Service in Sassari.
And just over a year after the start of the vaccination campaign, the island reaches 3,023,332 total administrations, while the Sardinians vaccinated are 1,269,752 (1,219,554 with double dose and 50,198 single dose, an average of 517 per day), equal to 79.4% of the total population (approximately 1.6 million). On Thursday alone, about 17 thousand doses were administered, of which 15 thousand third doses and 1100 first inoculations. However, there are still 243,687 people without any dose, of which 74,776 children between 5 and 11 years old.
IL PUNTO DELL'ISS - Even in Italy the epidemiological situation is worsening and, as announced by ISS president Silvio Brusaferro, the next flash survey for the detection of variants on the national territory "will be carried out next Monday 3 January". "Currently we have a situation of co-circulation where as of December 20 - he explained - the Delta variant was still prevalent, but Omicron was growing sharply with percentages exceeding 20%, albeit with great differences from region to region".
"In recent weeks, due to the circulation of the Omicron variant, there are also cases of reinfection in people who had already contracted the Covid infection and this recalls the importance of completing vaccination cycles and booster doses". "There is an increase in hospitalizations: for intensive care - he explained - we are at 12.9% of employment, going from 1023 hospitalized last week to 1226 this week. There is also a growth trend for the medical areas, going from 8722 hospitalized last week to 10,866 and exceeding 17% of occupancy of the beds. There is as a projection the probability that in the space of 3-4 weeks the percentages of beds will gradually become occupied ". Brusaferro also highlighted how the number of tampons is growing "significantly and by now every day the threshold of one million tests performed is exceeded".
The younger age groups are characterized by a "greater circulation of the virus and in the 20-29 age group the circulation has increased more significantly, but all groups under 40 are characterized by growth. The curves are confirmed. in clear growth both in the under 12s and in the under 20s ". "The risk of hospitalizations for Covid in the youngest groups is contained but always present and this - he said - is a strong fact that reminds us of the importance of vaccinations even in the youngest".
