Tragedy struck last night in a four-story building in Cornaredo, near Milan, where a fire killed three people from the same family.
The flames broke out in an apartment on Via Cairoli, forcing the evacuation of the entire building.
According to Carabinieri from the Milan Provincial Command, the victims are an 88-year-old man, his 85-year-old wife, and their 45-year-old son. The three lived in the home where the fire started. The precise circumstances of the incident are still being investigated.
Firefighters responded to the scene and evacuated approximately 40 people from the building. Eight residents were taken to the hospital for checkups, but none are believed to be in serious condition. One firefighter also suffered minor injuries during the rescue operations but has since been released.
The apartment where the fire broke out has been placed under lockdown. The investigation, entrusted to the Corsico Carabinieri and the fire department's investigative unit, is ongoing to determine the cause of the blaze.
