The former head of thoracic surgery of the Santa Rita clinic in Milan sentenced in 2018 in the appeal process bis to 15 years of imprisonment, in appeal ter he was given a sentence of 21 years and 4 months which, due to the amnesty dropped to 18 years and 4 months.
However, since he has been in his cell for 15 and a half years, when the sentence becomes final, he will serve the remaining part in probationary custody to social services.
The recalculation of the Court of Appeal came following the postponement of the Supreme Court, for which the man had to be challenged, alongside the manslaughter, the aggravating circumstance of the purpose of profit.
Pier Paolo Brega Massone is accused of the death of 4 patients. The Court has also redetermined the sentence for Fabio Persicci, his right-hand man accused for two of the 4 deaths: it has gone from 7 years and 8 months to 8 years and 8 months.
