Drama erupted in the waters of the port of Civitavecchia, where the lifeless body of Diego Putzu, 50, originally from Calasetta, was found yesterday.

The man worked as a cook aboard a sailboat docked in the Lazio port. A port employee noticed the body and immediately raised the alarm.

The man's body was floating in the sea near dock number 10. Border police officers, the Coast Guard, and Port Authority technicians intervened on the scene, recovering the body and securing the area.

According to initial information, Putzu was part of the crew of a sailing vessel currently moored in the port.

The cause of death is currently unclear: the Civitavecchia Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation and ordered an autopsy to clarify the circumstances of the death. Among the possibilities being considered by investigators are drowning, possible head trauma, or other possible causes, including third-party liability.

The community of Calasetta, where Diego Putzu was well-known and respected, is shocked. Mayor Antonello Puggioni expressed the entire town's condolences: "Diego was a cheerful person, loved by everyone. His passing is a profound sorrow for the entire community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family at this time of great suffering."
