A 66-year-old woman dead, her 73-year-old husband and 28-year-old daughter hospitalized in very serious conditions . This is the dramatic outcome of carbon monoxide poisoning that occurred last night in a home in Carnia, in Forni di Sopra (Udine) .
The alarm was raised at 4:30, after a call received by the Sores Fvg operations center from the Single Emergency Number for Tuscany where the 28-year-old's partner is in serious condition. He had in fact received worried messages from his girlfriend who was continuously retching and had symptoms of loss of consciousness .
The nurses contacted the young woman and asked her to leave the house, while the neighbors took her parents outside, who were not answering their phone calls .
The fire brigade and an ambulance were sent from Tolmezzo to the scene; a night-time rescue helicopter carrying a medical team landed in Ampezzo (Udine). Here the Carabinieri waited for the paramedics to take them to the peripheral site of the accident. When they arrived in Forni, the woman was already dead; her husband, on the other hand, was immediately intubated and transported by helicopter to the Cattinara hospital in Trieste, where he underwent oxygen therapy in a hyperbaric chamber. The daughter was finally taken by ambulance to Tolmezzo. Both she and her father are in very serious conditions .
Firefighters are trying to identify the causes of the poisoning. According to initial investigations, the carbon monoxide could have been released from the home's heating system .
