Four people died in the accident that occurred inside the Ca' Gulino tunnel between a bus and an ambulance, along the state road that connects Urbino to Fermignano.

The four victims were aboard the ambulance, which caught fire after the crash. They are the doctor from the Potes of Fossombrone, Sokol Hoxha, 42 years old, Albanian, the nurse Cinzia Mariotti, 49 years old, from Acqualagna, the rescue driver Stefano Sabbatini, 59 years old, from Fossombrone.

The patient Alberto Serfilippi, born in 1938, also died in the accident. Sokol Hoxha studied at the Polytechnic Marche.

An air ambulance took off from the hospital in Torrette di Ancona but there was already nothing more that could be done for the victims.

The children traveling on board the bus from Grottamare for a parish trip were unharmed.

The 118 vehicle, which left Fossombrone towards Urbino hospital, completely destroyed the front dashboard of the bus.

«The healthcare personnel who work in ambulances risk their lives every day and put them at the service of patients. They are silent and everyday heroes: today three of them fell while fulfilling their duty", the moving message from the regional health councilor Filippo Saltamartini. «We must be grateful to all those who put themselves at the service of the community every day with courage and altruism», he concludes.
