More than a week after his release, Mario Burlò, along with Alberto Trentini, spoke again about his terrible experience, which lasted 14 months in the Venezuelan prison in Caracas. "More than a prison, Caracas was a concentration camp , where they shaved our heads. I saw Muslim boys, who didn't eat during Ramadan, being intubated with instruments inserted into their private parts. The first night they made me sleep on a chair until a man gave me his mattress, a gesture of love I will never forget. After 14 months, I'm here to tell you not about an unjust detention, but about a real kidnapping ."

The Turin businessman, appearing today before the Senate Foreign Affairs and Defense Committees, thanked the government, calling himself a miracle, given the gravity of the situation. "The order had been given to kill us. I knew it was a real risk until I contacted the Embassy, and then I realized we weren't alone ."

Burlò then reiterated his commitment to all those still held inside the prison: "The work is not finished. I will continue to fight for all those boys still in prison ; I promised myself that when I was still locked up. I cannot accept that those boys are tortured; I must save them; this is my reason for living. Even without Maduro, the government has not changed; his former right-hand man, Diosdado Cabello, continues to allow these horrendous practices."
