The first doses are growing in Italy, even if the boom mainly concerns the little ones.

These are the data that emerge from the usual report of the Gimbe Foundation. In the week from 3 to 9 January 2022, 483,512 new vaccinates were registered, + 62.1% compared to 298,253 the previous week.

The increase regards in particular the age group 5-11 (267,412; + 53.3%) and the age group 12-19 (61,778; + 65.5%).

As of 11 January, there are a total of 8.61 million Italians without a dose, of which 2.21 are over 50 at high risk of serious illness and hospitalization.

As for the third doses, 24,314,983 were administered as of January 12 (7 am). Based on the official audience of 39.5 million people (updated on 10 January), the national coverage rate is 61.5% but with clear regional differences: ranging from 53.4% in Sicily to 70.5% in the Valley D'Aosta.

INFECTIONS AND ADMISSIONS - The epidemic curve is still growing, from 5 to 11 January there is a + 49% of new cases: 1,207,689 compared to 810,535 in the previous week. The weekly incidence exceeds 2 thousand cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in 56 provinces, according to Gimbe, the current measures are "insufficient to curb the rise of infections".

Chapter hospitals. Admissions to the medical area rose by 31%, from 12,912 to 17,067. Those in intensive care by 20.5%, from 1,392 to 1,677. An overload that “entails the postponement of the treatment of other diseases”, underlines Gimbe. Deaths are also growing strongly (+ 35.4%).
