Tragic accident in the mountains in Ornica, in the province of Bergamo, in the early afternoon of April 1st.

Around 1pm, local press reports, a 66-year-old man, Antonello Manca, a former railway worker originally from Aritzo, but a long-time resident of Milan, died while on an excursion.

From initial findings, it appears that the man slipped 300 meters down an icy slope. The accident occurred in the area of the Benigni Refuge.

On site, after the alarm, 112 sent the helicopter rescue, the mountain rescue and the carabinieri. However, the rescuers could do nothing but confirm the death: the hiker, who was in the company of two other people, died instantly.
