Bad weather has halted the Palio di Siena. The green flag will be displayed at the triple lancet windows of the Palazzo Pubblico due to adverse weather conditions, as required by Article 90 of the Palio Regulations. The rain that fell from yesterday evening, Wednesday, July 1st, until well into this morning has made it impossible to hold the Historical Parade and the Carriera , which will be held, weather permitting, with the same events tomorrow, Friday, July 3rd.
As always, this Palio is all about Sardinia: 9 out of 10 horses come from the island . Seven of them will be ridden by Sardinian jockeys.
Tomorrow's program
Firecrackers will be fired at 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM as the first and second warnings, followed by the clearing of the track at 4:40 PM to allow the mounted Carabinieri parade to begin at 5:15 PM. The Historical Parade will enter Piazza del Campo at 5:20 PM. The horses will emerge from the Cortile del Podestà for the Palio at 7:30 PM.
From 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm, access to the internal part of the square, the so-called "conchiglia", is possible up to the maximum number permitted.
