In Liguria, the emergency has started due to bad weather. And as the hours pass, the concern of citizens and mayors increases. In the region, rivers and streams are overflowing, but not only that. Many precautions have been taken (and are coming) to limit the damage, such as the stoppage of the Genoa-Ventimiglia railway, the closure and reopening of the A10 between Varazze and Arenzano due to flooding. Two flights to Genoa were diverted to Pisa and Turin, those from Rome and Pisa and to Catania were delayed. The alert is orange but there are those, like the mayor of Celle Ligure, who have decided to "pretend to be on red alert because the situation is quite serious". The mayor yesterday asked to "keep children in school on the first floor until further notice" and has suspended all teaching activities for today. Flooding and schools closed also in the Alessandria area, schools closed in La Spezia and in other municipalities.
But the bad weather will also move to Lombardy, Tuscany and Emilia Romagna today. A situation that the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni , from Brussels where she is to participate in the EU-Gulf Countries summit and the European Council, is following with apprehension. The Prime Minister "spoke by telephone to the Minister for Civil Protection, Nello Musumeci, and the head of Civil Protection, Fabio Ciciliano, to whom she asked to remain constantly informed". For now, the one paying the price for the storms that are swelling rivers and causing landslides is Liguria.
Rail traffic was suspended between Loano and Pietra Ligure and two flights to Genoa were diverted to Pisa and Turin. Several roads in the province of Savona were closed due to flooding and fallen trees, including the Aurelia in Celle, the Colle di Cadibona road which was then reopened and closed again. The A10 Genoa-Ventimiglia motorway was closed to traffic for about an hour between Varazze and Arenzano in the direction of Genoa due to flooding. A 14-kilometer tailback on the A10 between Albenga and Feglino due to a motorway construction site was made worse by the wall of water that fell in a few hours. Due to a landslide, three families were evacuated in Varazze.
