The body of the 67-year-old man was found missing yesterday evening with his wife in Scordia, the center of the Catania plain hit by a storm.

According to what was announced by the firefighters, the body was in a citrus grove far from the place where the couple was last seen, in the Ogliastro district.

The alarm was triggered by a motorist who was stuck inside his car due to the presence of a river of water and mud on the street.

Rescued by the firefighters, the man told them he saw two people in a Ford Fiesta who would get out of the car and be engulfed by the fury of the water.

In the village, for searches, divers from the fire brigade also arrived last night, who are working together with the carabinieri and civil protection personnel.

There are still many inconveniences in the area also this morning: in Catania, due to the flooding of the Simeto river, the state road 194 "Ragusana" was temporarily closed to traffic in both directions from km 0.300 to km 1.

The same measure, due to the presence of mud and debris on the carriageway, was adopted for the state road 385 "Di Palagonia" in both directions from kilometer 25 to 29 at the height of Lentini (Syracuse), and the state road 120 "Dell 'Etna e delle Madonie "from kilometer 176 to 179, at the height of Bronte.
