Catania Fontanarossa airport, closed since yesterday morning at 5 o'clock due to the ash that fell on the runways after the eruption of Etna, is back in operation.

Yesterday all flights departing from Catania were canceled while those arriving that were not canceled were diverted to Trapani and Comiso.

The reopening was scheduled for yesterday at 20 but it was then postponed to this morning. The first plane left at 6.24, a few tens of minutes late, bound for Prague. Then another plane took off for Turin.

At 7.20 instead the first plane landed, a flight from Malta.

The eve of August 15th was hell yesterday for thousands of travellers , forced not to return home as planned and not to arrive in Sicily - or suffer delays and inconveniences - for the planned holidays.
