A 60-year-old man was arrested by the postal police in the province of Palermo on charges of possession of child pornography.
During the search, ordered by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Palermo Court and carried out by officers of the Western Sicily Cyber Security Operations Center, computer devices containing a large number of illicit files were seized.
Inside hard drives, USB sticks, and smartphones, investigators found approximately 1,200 files containing child pornography, many of which depicted minors under the age of 14.
During the search, the officers also found a blank-firing Beretta 92 FS pistol , without the red cap and complete with two magazines and numerous blank cartridges.
The man was also in possession of counterfeit badges and tools suitable for simulating membership in the police force: these included a paddle, a blue flashing light, handcuffs and fake badges.
The sixty-year-old, a seriously disabled person , was arrested in flagrante and also charged with the crime of possession of counterfeit trademarks.
The Preliminary Investigations Judge of the Palermo Court validated the arrest and ordered the precautionary measure of house arrest against the suspect .
Investigations are continuing to determine whether the man had any contact with child pornography networks and to clarify the motive for his possession of the fake police symbols.
